Short price good news for a Janet Devlin X Factor victory

Published:

History suggests that Janet Devlin has more than a strong chance of winning the X Factor given her relatively short odds after impressing the judges with her opening audition.

The 16-year-old Irish teenager was the star performer from the opening week of televised auditions with her rendition of the Elton John classic ‘Your Song’, which garnered rave reviews from Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos.

Janet’s performance saw her instantly installed as favourite in the X Factor betting and she can currently be backed at 5/1 to win the show.

Although numerous more acts are still to be seen ahead of boot camp, the early market support in her favour can only be good news for Janet.

Even if other stand-out performances are witnessed at the audition stage, it is unlikely to cause widespread changes to Janet’s X Factor odds.

Matt Cardle was 8/1 to win the X Factor last year after all the auditions were over and shortened further after shining at boot camp.

Looking back at all seven former X Factor winners, five were handed single-figure odds ahead of boot camp, with Steve Brookstein and Joe McElderry being the only exceptions, who were both 12/1.

Janet is the only known X Factor contestant this year with odds in this bracket and therefore must be considered a serious contender for victory.

Furthermore, Irish acts have reached the live television stages in five of the seven series’ of the X Factor.

Of the other contestants so far confirmed of a spot at boot camp, Frankie Cocozza is considered the most likely to win the X Factor at 16/1.

However, it is Kitty Brucknell that has largely shared the headlines with Janet, although she is valued at 40/1 to secure victory.
