Kaymer to topple Westwood and McIlroy for consecutive KLM win
Published:It may be the strongest field ever assembled in the 90-year history of the KLM Open, but that won’t faze Martin Kaymer this week.
The former world number one and current world number three proved in last week’s European Masters that he is back to his best, and while Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood provide stiff competition, he looks the best bet at 8/1.
It may be boring and it may be predictable, but after the way Kaymer demolished this course last year, coupled with the fact that he shot a final round of 65 of his way to second place last week means he is hard to ignore.
Had it not been for a poor final round last week, Lee Westwood would have challenged the leader for the title and he has to be respected, but while he, Kaymer and McIlroy all sit atop the betting at 8/1, the German is the preffered option.
Outside of the top three there is plenty of value to be found and while David Horsey hasn’t been in the best of form in recent weeks, he win and two top tens from earlier in the season suggest he’s well overpriced at 80/1.
The Englishman missed the cut at last year’s European Masters but went on to finish in a tie for fourth here and Horsey looks a great each-way bet this week.
Gonzalez Fernandez-Castano won the KLM Open in 2005 on this course and also finished in a tie for fourth here last year and so the Spaniard loves the course.
At 33/1 he offers plenty of each-way value and it would be no surprise to see him up with the leaders on Sunday.
Expect to see Kaymer, Westwood and McIlroy challenging on Sunday but Kaymer is the man to beat and both Horsey and Fernandez-Castano can line the pockets at very nice each-way prices.
