Man Utd looking good at 9/2 to win Carling Cup after Leeds stroll

Manchester United may have had an unfamiliar look last night, but the result was all too familiar for their rivals this season.

Man Utd were convincing in their 3-0 win against Championship side Leeds United and, while the side was packed with youth, it was the old stagers who bagged the headlines.

Michael Owen hit two very tidy goals on his first start of the season before Ryan Giggs made progression safe with a deflected effort just before half-time.

It’s an ominous sign for the other sides with Carling Cup ambitions and Man Utd are already looking very tempting at 9/2 to win the first trophy of the English season.

With Man Utd adding several new players to their team in the summer, their Carling Cup squad is looking stronger than ever and, even before the likes of Wayne Rooney and Nani come in for the later rounds, they should comfortably progress.

Man Utd had a poor season in the League Cup last season and were knocked out at the quarter final stage by West Ham United.

However, that was a rare blip recently and United have dominated the cup for the past few years.

After deciding it was actually worth winning, United did just that in 2009 with a win over Tottenham Hotspur in the final and then retained the trophy in 2010 with a final victory over Aston Villa.

With joint 9/2 favourites Manchester City still having to play their third round clash against Birmingham City tonight, the Premier League champions look well worth a punt.
