Pick of the Pundits: There is certainly a Buz at Leicester today

Published:

Paul Castles from the Birmingham Mail was one of the tipping duo who correctly identified 13/2 winner Lily In Pink yesterday and he is looking to embark on a victory sequence with Buzkashi today.

Buzkashi is the most popular selection of the tipsters taking part in the Pick of the Pundits competition, with six entrants choosing the runner as their nap of the day.

Trainer Roger Varian is showing signs of getting the best from his juveniles late in the Flat season and five tipsters today think that Buzkashi can build on a solid debut to land the spoils in the 16:30 at Leicester.

However, there is opposition from the Blackpool Gazette’s Steve Simpson and Jeffrey Ross from the Glasgow Evening Times, who fancy My Queenie to take victory.

16:30 Leicester : Buzkashi – 6/4

Big things are clearly expected of Buzkashi, given her entry in the Group One Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket later this month and she showed some promise on her only start to date, when third at the same course in July.

She runs at Leicester today and is expected to build significantly on her debut run and break her maiden tag.

The step up in distance of an extra 1f should pose no problems and she looks a class above this opposition.

My Queenie was the overnight favourite, but is now 2/1 to secure victory.

Richard Hannon’s filly is still a maiden after four runs, but a solid performance in a Group Three at Goodwood in late August has strengthened her credentials.

However, whether she was flattered by this result remains to be seen and she may have to improve on her runs to date to thwart Buzkashi.

Of the rest, Khione is a newcomer from a top stable and commands respect, while Protect comes from the Sir Michael Stoute yard that has won the race in three of the last ten years.
