Punters Dare To Dance in today’s Cambridgeshire at Newmarket
Published:Saturday’s Newmarket card is one to savour with two Group 1’s and a Group 2, but it’s the Betfred Cambridgeshire that takes pride of place at 15:50.
35 horses will take to the Rowley Mile today but all eyes were on Dare To Dance, who has had punters worrying all week.
Despite being backed into favouritism early on in the week, Dare To Dance wasn’t even in the race with plenty of horses having to drop out before he was allowed his chance, but Jeremy Noseda has decided not to run because of the state of the ground.
Dare To Dance was a slight drifter this morning as he, Cry Fury and Man Of Action all shared favouritism at 10/1, and with 35 horses in the race, there are no guarantees the favourites are going to have it all their own way today.
The reason for Dare To Dance’s drift is the state of the ground at Newmarket and having expressed concerns over the good to firm ground, Noseda has decided Dare to Dance will not run.
With just two winning favourites in the last 10 years, history is against the favourites.
There have also been just two winning three-year-olds in the last 10 years which was another negative for Dare To Dance, and with the last three winners starting at 14/1 or bigger It’s a race which is tough to decipher.
No horse carrying more than 9st5lb has won this race in the last 10 years and so looking further down the card is the best option.
Maqaratt, with two seconds in his three runs at Newmarket, is certainly tempting at 25/1 but Stevie Thunder, who won here two starts ago, has plenty of experience running in big fields and as he’s chasing a hat-trick, the 28/1 could be a huge price.
