Rugby World Cup: Bet on Scotland to make life difficult for England

Published:

There have been some big games between Scotland and England throughout the years – not least the 1991 World Cup semi final that saw England win 9-6 – but this is right up there.

England are overwhelming 1/25 favourites to make it to the quarter finals and Scotland are out at 8/1.

It should still be a tight game though, with Scotland sure to try and play a fast expansive game to take advantage of England who have consistently shown a lack of discipline at the breakdown which has led to a string of penalties being awarded against them.

Conversely, England will be looking to slow the game down and, with Scotland making six changes to the side who lost against Argentina, it could be a rather scrappy affair.

The games between these sides in recent years have been pretty tight, with the last four games seeing two wins for England, a win for Scotland and a draw.

England only came through the last match by six points at Twickenham so backing Scotland to win with a ten point head start at 1/1 looks well worth backing.

Finally, Jonny Wilkinson has been in poor kicking form during this World Cup and has made just 50% of his attempts at goal, giving even more reason to believe this will be close.

His kicking has been so unusually poor that Ladbrokes are offering to refund all losing bets on the winner if he misses his last kick at goal.
