Carling Cup: Wolves next in the firing line for rampant Man City

Published:

There are four potentially brilliant ties in the fourth round of the Carling Cup this Wednesday, as eight Premier League teams face off against each other.

The lowdown on Liverpool’s trip to Stoke can be found here, while the other three games are previewed right below…

Wolves vs Manchester City

In case you’ve forgotten, Man City head into this game on the back of a fairly convincing 6-1 win against Manchester United on Sunday and are massive favourites at 8/15.

City can afford to rest the whole of the starting XI from Sunday and still field a team capable of sweeping past a Wolves team who were dire for long periods of their 2-2 draw with Swansea on Saturday.

With City in such brilliant form it’s hard to see past a win for the Manchester side. However, Wolves did beat Roberto Mancini’s men at Molineux last season and shouldn’t be discounted at 5/1.

Everton vs Chelsea

Chelsea’s controversial 1-0 defeat at QPR on Sunday that saw Jose Bosingwa and Didier Drogba sent off provides the backdrop for this clash.

Perhaps even more worryingly for Chelsea though, is their record at Goodison Park where they haven’t won in their previous four visits.

Chelsea are 5/4 favourites for this game but Everton – fresh off the back of a 3-1 win away to Fulham – may be worth a punt at 11/5.

Blackburn Rovers vs Newcastle United

Newcastle United are absolutely flying at the moment and are a very decent 17/10 to win against Blackburn Rovers.

The Magpies are undefeated in all competitions this term and face a team who they have already dispatched 3-1 this season.

Meanwhile, Rovers are 6/4 to get a much needed win for under-pressure boss Steve Kean who has seen his side go four Premier League games without a victory.
