India v England: England have woeful record in India to put right

England have a truly horrid record when heading to India for one-day games in recent years and they have their work cut out to improve this run when facing their first-one day clash on their current tour.

Confidence will be high in the England ranks after they won their five-match one-day series on home soil against the same opposition 3-0 last month.

However, India will be a totally different proposition back at home, even though they will be without a number of recognised stars.

Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan are among the bigger names absent, so the pressure will again fall on the shoulders of many of the young and inexperienced heads that took to the field in England.

But these same players will be much more accustomed to the completely different nature of Indian pitches, most notably the fact that they will be better suited to spin and will bounce much less than in England.

This may prove especially troublesome for the England pace attack, which are generally much keener to utilise the short ball and get opposing batsmen jumping around in their crease.

In England’s last two visits to India, they have managed just a single victory in 12 matches and they were whitewashed 5-0 on their most recent trip in 2008.

India have also triumphed in 18 of their 30 one-game meetings with all opposition in the last two years, showing how comfortable they are on home soil.

The fact that Eoin Morgan has not travelled to the sub continent is another massive blow, as his array of shots could have been a major asset.

India’s odds are 8/11 to win the first one-day international at Hyderabad, with England unusually in their recent games the outsiders at 11/10.
