Indian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton out to 6/1 after punishing penalty
Published:Lewis Hamilton’s miserable season has got even worse in India with the British driver incurring a three-place grid penalty during practice.
Hamilton ignored the double waved yellow flags while marshals were close to the track during his first practice session and will now start Sunday’s Grand Prix three places further down the grid than the position in which he qualifies.
Hamilton has now drifted out to 6/1 to win the first Indian Grand Prix following the misdemeanour which he admits is completely his fault.
Speaking to the BBC, Hamilton said: “I went in there and put my hands up and said I accept whatever penalty I get and they gave me one.
“I don’t have any feelings. It is what it is. I’m a bit frustrated with myself as it’s my fault – as usual.”
This self-defeating attitude is not something we’ve come to expect from Hamilton who has won just twice on the circuit this season.
With Hamilton just fourth fastest in the second practice session, victory in India now looks beyond the 26-year-old.
While all that’s been going on though, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has proved an unlikely pace-setter.
He clocked the fastest lap time of 1:25.706, with champion Sebastian Vettel second with a time of 1:25.794.
Vettel – who has won ten races this season – heads into the race as favourite at 10/11 with Britain’s Jenson Button second in the betting at 9/2 to claim a fourth victory of the season.
