Ladbrokes best price on England Euro 2012 win after Rooney ban

Ladbrokes now go the best price of 12/1 that England win Euro 2012 following the news that Wayne Rooney will miss all of the group games of the competition.

Despite Rooney himself and England manager Fabio Capello writing to UEFA individually in an appeal for leniency for his kick at Montenegro defender Miodrag Dzudovic, this proved unsuccessful.

UEFA even went as far to describe the Manchester United striker’s moment of petulance as an ‘assault’ and instead handed out a full three-game ban, rather than the one match that everyone in England was hoping for.

The big question now is whether Rooney will even make the England squad to travel to Ukraine and Poland, bearing in mind he may not even have the chance to play if they fail to progress to the quarter finals from their group.

However, with England hardly bursting at the seams with brilliant attacking talent, it is hard to see how he can be left out and it is 4/1 that he is not selected for the plane.

It leaves Capello in an unenviable position and you can bet that whatever he decides to do, there will be plenty of dissenters.

At least the Italian will have an extra game to experiment with his side after the FA announced earlier today that a friendly with Sweden in November has been arranged.

The fixture will come three days after another friendly with World Cup winners Spain and will give Capello an important 180 minutes to attempt to find a solution to his Rooney conundrum.

And although England have not beaten Sweden since 1968, a run of 12 games, it will surely be the manner of the performance that will be more important ahead of Euro 2012 than the actual result.
