Rugby World Cup: New Zealand 6/4 to retain title after France win

| 23.10.2011

New Zealand will still be partying following their tense 8-7 Rugby World Cup final win against France, but Ladbrokes are already looking to the next one in 2015.

England are the host nation for the 2015 tournament but it’s once again the All Blacks who are very early favourites to become the first team ever to retain the title at 6/4.

It will be a big ask for the reigning champions especially as Richie McCaw and talisman Dan Carter will both be in their mid thirties at that point.

However, now they have finally got rid of the World Cup hoodoo that saw them fail to win the tournament for 24 years, they could be well worth an early bet.

Meanwhile, Australia – who finished third in the tournament – are second favourites at 5/1, but behind them it’s too close to call.

England, Wales and South Africa are all out at 7/1 to win the title following vastly contrasting World Cup campaigns.

England are surely in with a shout on their home turf if they learn the lessons from this disastrous campaign, while South Africa can never be discounted and were extremely unlucky to lose their quarter final tie against Australia in New Zealand.

Wales look an intriguing prospect at 7/1 following a campaign in which they made the semi finals playing some brilliant rugby.

With young players like George North and Sam Warburton coming through and a majority of the current squad set to still be a part of the set up in four years, they could be well worth an early punt.
