Stoke vs Liverpool: Reds favourites despite previous Britannia battles

Liverpool return to the scene of their first Premier League defeat this season as they take on Stoke at the Britannia Stadium this Wednesday.

Both teams head into this Carling Cup game with almost fully-fit squads and are looking to bounce back from disappointing results at the weekend…

Match odds

Liverpool – the most successful side in League Cup history – head into this game as 6/5 favourites despite their poor record at the Britannia Stadium.

The Reds haven’t won in their previous four visits to Stoke and have lost their last two games – including a 1-0 defeat earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Stoke are out at 23/10 to make it through but crashed out at this stage last season to West Ham United and come into this game on the back of a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal.

With neither team playing their best football at the moment, the 23/10 offered for the draw after 90 minutes shouldn’t be ignored.

Goal markets

None of the previous four games between the sides at the Britannia Stadium have yielded over two goals, while Stoke currently boast the second best home defence in the Premier League after conceding just one goal in their opening four games.

Backing under 2.5 goals at 4/6 is a bet well worth consideration.

Favourite to find the net first is Liverpool’s Luis Suarez at 4/1, while Andy Carroll is second in the betting at 5/1.

However, after bagging a goal against Norwich at the weekend and Kenny Dalglish potentially resting Suarez, backing Craig Bellamy to open the scoring at 7/1 could also be worth a punt.
