Vettel to join F1 greats by taking title at Japanese Grand Prix

The Formula One world title has been decided at Suzuka on ten occasions in the past and it is hard to look past Sebastian Vettel becoming the 11th with a victory in the Japanese Grand Prix.

Vettel only requires one point to successfully retain his title and even if he fails to finish in the top ten at Suzuka, he will be world champion again if Jenson Button does not win.

However, not only is it unlikely that Vettel will fail to finish in the top ten of a Grand Prix for the first time this season, it is also hard to back against him taking the chequered flag for the tenth time in 15 races.

Vettel is 4/6 to win the Japanese Grand Prix and this is a race that he has dominated in recent years as he bids for a hat-trick of victories at Suzuka.

This success around the figure of eight layout is also notable as Michael Schumacher is the only driver to date to have triumphed at the Japanese Grand Prix on more than two occasions.

Meanwhile, not only has Vettel won at the track for the last two seasons, but he has started from pole position each time.

This could be especially pivotal as Suzuka is regarded as one of the most difficult overtaking circuits in the Formula One calendar, with the chicane being the only logical place to pass fellow drivers.

Furthermore, Suzuka is seen as a track that tends to favour the best cars and there is little doubt that the Red Bull driven by Vettel has been superior to the other cars on the grid this season.

Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet and Schumacher are among the legendary drivers to have won a world title at Suzuka and Vettel can take another step towards eclipsing them all with victory in the Japanese Grand Prix.
