Anita Dobson and Robbie Savage at risk this week on Strictly

The exits of likable long shots Audley Harrison and Russell Grant leave seven talented celebrities to challenge for the Strictly Come Dancing glitter ball trophy, with the eighth elimination likely to be the most high-profile yet.

Holly Valance’s shock appearance in the bottom two was a real indicator that nobody is safe, yet while the actress and singer is 4/1 to go this time, her fans are sure to be out in greater force to prevent another nervy night.

Just two of the previous six stars to rank in the bottom two but survive have been turfed out the following week – Nancy Dell’Olio and Harrison – and both had at least two close shaves before eventually bidding farewell.

Anita Dobson is the 10/11 favourite to perform her last dance on week nine, and having narrowly escaped the axe a fortnight ago and then ended a run of 30-something scores with a 27 at Wembley, it is easy to see why she is in danger.

Robbie Savage and Ola Jordan are the couple who provide her best chance of an extended stay at 4/1, with the former Wales international’s energy and attitude admirable but his versatility and quality compared to his rivals questionable.

He is far more popular on the dancefloor than he was on a football pitch though, his commitment to the cause and enjoyment of the experience contagious, and a few withering Craig Revel Horwood putdown’s might prompt people to pick up their phones.

The other pair judged to be in jeopardy are Alex Jones and James Jordan at 4/1, however it would be a huge surprise if the One Show host went now after improving spectacularly, culminating in placing joint-top of the leaderboard last week.

She has scored 31 or more on each of the last four shows to emerge as an outsider in the top female market at 7/1. Frontrunners Chelsee Healey (25/1), Jason Donovan and Harry Judd (33/1) are all expected to comfortably survive.
