Arsenal most in need as Euro bidding war to begin for Gotze

| 23.11.2011

Mario Gotze is perhaps the hottest young talent in world football at present and there is likely to be a mad scramble around his signature next summer, with Arsenal and Manchester United both positioned towards the head of the queue to lure the German.

Borussia Dortmund as good as accept that they will lose their star asset in the near future, although the 19-year-old insists that he is happy at the club.

Offers were already reportedly rejected over the summer, but Dortmund are bracing themselves for another batch of new approaches, possibly in January and definitely at the end of the season.

However, the German champions will hold out for a minimum of £30m for Gotze and they could conceivably get a lot more should a number of clubs become engrossed in a bidding war.

Arsenal are arguably the most desperate to sign Gotze and although it is uncommon for Arsene Wenger to spend big on one player in the transfer market, he may make an exception for Gotze.

The club certainly need some added creativity in their ranks following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and Gotze’s technique would fit perfectly into Arsenal’s pass-and-move style.

Manchester United have also been lacking in creativity in the biggest games, particularly in the middle of the park, and Gotze could prove the answer to their shortfalls.

Although naturally a wide player, Gotze could flourish in a free role and his ability to link with Wayne Rooney may provide the spark required to maintain their competitiveness domestically and in Europe.

If Gotze would rather stay in Germany then a move to Bayern Munich is not out of the question, while Real Madrid have been previously linked, alongside Juventus.

But with Real Madrid potentially favouring Eden Hazard over Gotze, there is a strong possibility that the Premier League may be his next destination.

Arsenal will get the chance to assess Gotze again when Dortmund arrive at the Emirates in the Champions League.

Dortmund are 11/4 in the Champions League odds to beat Arsenal, with Gotze 10/1 to score the opener and 7/2 to find the target at any time in the 90 minutes.
