Long Run looks the best Betfair Chase bet after withdrawals
Published:Fitness doubts may mean that some punters are willing to take on Long Run in the Betfair Chase, but the recent spate of withdrawals mean that the reigning Cheltenham Gold Cup winner is the best bet in the Haydock showpiece.
The likes of Grands Crus, Rubi Light and Nacarat have been pulled out by connections in recent days, leaving just six runners in the Betfair Chase.
These decisions have taken all of the each-way value out of the race, as the only first two home will be paid out, rather than the top three for eight entrants.
Long Run was beaten last year on his seasonal appearance and there is certainly the belief that he will not be at his best at Ascot, as Nicky Henderson will be preparing him to peak in the King George on Boxing Day and then the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March.
But the removal of Nacarat could particularly play into his hands even if not at 100 per cent.
It was highly likely that Nacarat would taken on front-running duties and would have ensured a good gallop for the remainder of the field.
However, there is every chance that the early pace will now be slow and therefore suit Long Run, who is arguably the quickest of the six runners if it effectively becomes a 2m race.
Time For Rupert especially wants a stamina test and should come on a lot from his second behind Weird Al in the Charlie Hall Chase.
It has since been revealed that the horse has shed some weight since this reverse, which is a boost to his chances.
If there is any each-way value left, then Time For Rupert may prove the best option at 8/1 in the Betfair Chase odds.
