Risky song choice could lead Janet away from X Factor Nirvana

The X Factor could be ready to break new ground in the quarter finals – and it’s Janet Devlin who will get the opportunity to sing a track by Nirvana.

Courtney Love has been in touch with Simon Cowell on Twitter saying she would be happy to allow Janet to sing a track from Nirvana, given that the Irish act lives close to the area where the family of late husband Kurt Cobain originate.

Now with each act to sing two songs, it seems the X Factor will jump at the opportunity to have some new content on the show.

Meanwhile, Love will also benefit from the added interest an X Factor rendition will bring to the Nirvana back catalogue.

With the deluxe edition of the Nevermind album only recently released, 20 years after the original, it is almost certain to be a track from this.

The obvious suggestion for Janet would be the hit ‘Come As You Are’ given that it is one of the more well known songs and also has a melodious nature that would fit in with her folksy style.

However, it remains to be seen if Nirvana songs are mainstream enough to appeal to the typical X Factor viewer and song choices could be especially important at this stage of the competition.

If voters do not know the song, it could increase the likelihood that Janet is eliminated, making the 11/4 offered for her to be eliminated this week look very tempting.

However, Janet is seen as the most safe of Kelly Rowland’s remaining three girls, as Amelia Lily and Misha B are the joint favourites to be the next act eliminated in the X Factor odds at 15/8.
