US Election: Romney best placed to rival Obama for President
Published:Rick Perry’s chances of making it to the Oval Office may have been dealt a huge blow by his forgetfulness in Wednesday’s Republican debate, but there are plenty of others who’ll fancy their chances of becoming the 45th President of the United States.
Perry is now out at 20/1 to become the next US President after his gaffe, giving Mitt Romney’s Republican nomination a huge boost.
Romney is considered the favourite Republican nominee by commentators, and is 7/4 to be the next President.
The brilliantly named former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, is 10/1 to get the Republican nomination and become the next President but is currently joint second in voter polls to secure the nomination along with Romney.
Herman Cain is the current favourite to get the Republican nomination but a series of sexual harassment allegations look set to derail his campaign.
Romney has a successful track record as Governor of Massachusetts and occupies the middle ground better than any of the other Republican candidates which would make him a serious contender to get to the White House – if he gets the nomination.
The Tea Party are becoming increasingly influential within the Republican set-up and his centralist policy plans are not proving too popular with the ultra-Conservative fractions.
While he may not be the most popular candidate within certain elements of his own party, with his centralist views, he looks best placed to challenge Barack Obama in the US Presidential election next December.
However, Obama is still the current favourite for re-election at 1/1 as we head into a year of furious campaigning.
