Vettel breaks pole record, but Webber and Button may challenge

| 26.11.2011

Sebastian Vettel is now just 8/13 in the Formula One odds to win the Brazilian Grand Prix after breaking the record for the most pole positions in a season at Interlagos.

Vettel has eclipsed the record previously held by Nigel Mansell as he will start on the front of the grid for the 15th time this season in the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Mark Webber ensured that Red Bull dominate the front row of the grid by taking second spot and was within a tenth of a second of his teammate.

Webber is yet to win a Grand Prix this season, but may take some hope from the fact that the driver to start from pole has failed to win the Brazilian Grand Prix in each of the last two seasons.

It is 9/2 that Webber wins the Brazilian Grand Prix and he needs a victory if he is to have any hope of taking second spot in the final drivers’ standings.

With team orders now allowed, there is even the possibility that Vettel will allow Webber victory if it means taking second in the drivers’ championship.

With Red Bull dominating the front row, McLaren have locked out the second row with Jenson Button taking third on the grid and teammate Lewis Hamilton fourth.

It is only the sixth time in the 19 races this season that Button has out-qualified Hamilton and the first time that he will begin in the top ten in Brazil having struggled in the past.

The fact that conditions may be constantly changing and there is the threat of rain in Brazil could also make Button the best equipped to challenge Vettel in the race and he can be backed at 6/1 to secure victory.

Hamilton has some work to do and has drifted slightly from 11/4 to 6/1 to triumph, with Fernando Alonso 12/1 after being forced to begin from fifth on the grid.
