Ennis the early favourite to win 2012 BBC SPOTY

JESSICA ENNIS is the favourite to be crowned BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2012, according to Ladbrokes.

After 2011 saw no females on the shortlist, the heptahlete is 4/1 to win the award in Olympic year. Andy Murray earns a 7/1 quote with hopes of winning his first Grand Slam in 2012.

The odds suggest that London 2012 will be the platform for athletes’ personalities to shine with Victoria Pendleton and Rebecca Adlington among the early favourites at 8/1 and Ben Ainsley, Mo Farah and Sir Chris Hoy all 9/1 shots.

The bookies make it 2/1 that three female athletes will make the final ten and it’s 20/1 that there’s a repeat of the male only final in 2011.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Ennis is the pin-up of 2012. A gold medal will see her odds collapse.”
