Expect a goal frenzy when Chelsea host Manchester City

Top-of-the-table clashes in previous seasons have typically been cagey and largely expected to be settled by the odd goal, but based on the current campaign, there will be goals galore at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea host Manchester City.

Manchester City have been scoring for fun this season and have already hit five at White Hart Lane against Tottenham and then bettered this when hitting Manchester United for six at Old Trafford.

Given the number of scoring options in their ranks, there is every chance that they will also find the target with regularity against a Chelsea team that have looked shaky of late in defence, despite keeping three clean sheets in their last four games.

Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero are particularly in form of late, with the former scoring seven goals in nine Premier League games and the latter netting 11 times in 13 appearances.

Meanwhile, at least one of the pair is destined to lead the line against Chelsea, given that Edin Dzeko has started in the league victory against Norwich and also the Champions League success against Bayern Munich, meaning that he is liable to be rested.

Chelsea have also shown signs of improvement of late and Didier Drogba has especially rediscovered some sort of scoring touch.

The chances of Andre Villas Boas’ team finding the target also look particularly strong as Manchester City have failed to shut out the opposition in their last seven Premier League games since defeating Blackburn at the start of October.

Chelsea have also scored in their last 14 Premier League home fixtures and in ten of their last 11 at Stamford Bridge in the top flight, they have netted at least two.

Therefore, 8/11 looks good value in the Premier League odds that over 2.5 goals are scored in the Stamford Bridge tussle and it could even be worth taking the 2/1 that over 3.5 goals are struck.
