Ambitious PSG join the hunt for cut-price Carlos Tevez

Having recently relinquished the Ligue 1 lead to surprise package Montpellier following a humiliating 3-0 loss to arch rivals Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain’s wealthy backers are preparing to initiate wholesale changes from January.

Starting at the top, boss Antoine Kombouare will not welcome his next meeting with director of football Leonardo, who is rumoured to be lining up Claude Makelele as Kombouare’s replacement until the end of the season, with Rafa Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti tipped to take the job permanently in the summer.

But before then, Qatari millions will be thrown at the world’s most high-profile players as significant changes in the playing staff are to be made when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

David Beckham’s five-year stay at LA Galaxy looks set to come to an end, and Paris, 5/6 to win Ligue 1, seems to be his likely choice as president Nasser al-Khelaifi seeks to realise his vision of PSG as France’s first Galacticos, following the record-breaking €40m arrival of Javier Pastore last summer.

And the next superstar on the agenda? One Carlos Tevez. The Man City forward seemed to be Serie A bound when reports earlier this week suggest Serie A favourites AC Milan (4/5) were set to firm up their interest with an initial loan move for the troubled striker.

But Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has since revealed PSG’s interest. Given the French side’s seemingly unlimited funds, they could well jump ahead in the queue.

City are keen to sell, not loan, their enigmatic former skipper and PSG would be more than willing to stump up the funds for a player who will no doubt come at at a substantially lower fee given the circumstances.

Milan, on the other hand, are not so flush and refuse to entertain the possibility of a swap deal involving Brazilian striker Pato.

The success of Argentine playmaker Pastore could also prove a factor in persuading Tevez that Paris should be his next destination, with a fellow national sure to be a bonus for a player who has struggled in the past to pick up the local lingo.
