Arsenal January transfer rumours already starting to fly

The January transfer window may have only just opened but the Arsenal rumours are already gathering momentum.

Their defeat at Fulham on Monday may have put an end to their slim title ambitions but they are still very much in the frame for Champions League qualification and are currently fifth in the table, just one point behind Chelsea.

The Gunners are the fifth favourites to make the top four at 5/6 and it’s hard to see those odds moving much if any of the rather underwhelming transfer rumours surrounding the Gunners come to fruition.

The Daily Mirror are reporting Arsene Wenger could be about to make a surprise move for Sunderland winger Kieran Richardson.

According to the Mirror, Wenger is a big fan of the former Manchester United player and would be willing to shell out some of the precious Arsenal funds on the winger.

While it may be hard to see that happening, a rather more convincing rumour comes courtesy of the Metro.

The paper believes Wenger is looking toward Lyon defender Aly Cissokho to help ease his full-back crisis.

Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas is allegedly keen for the French player to go out on loan until the end of the season and, with Thomas Vermaelen, Kieran Gibbs, Andre Santos, Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson all out injured, that would suit the Gunners down to the ground.

It’s also looking increasingly likely that Wayne Bridge won’t be heading to the Emirates as the full-back’s £90,000 per week wages are thought to be a sticking point.

Following their Fulham defeat the Gunners have drifted to 33/1 to win the Premier League and it will take more than a new full-back to see them upset the odds.
