Birmingham vs Wolves: expect a tight FA Cup clash between rivals

Published:

Birmingham host Wolves in a televised third round FA Cup game this Saturday and it promises to be an intriguing clash.

Following their relegation last season, Birmingham have been solid if not spectacular in the Championship and are currently 14th in the second tier having won just one of their previous four games.

However, because of their Europa League exploits they have played two games less than many of the teams above them and will give struggling Wolves a tough afternoon…

Match odds

The Blues are the narrow favourites at 7/5 and face a Wolves team who have not won in six games.

With Birmingham making it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in each of the last two seasons, they have the pedigree to see off their Premier League neighbours – especially if Mick McCarthy rests some first-teamers following the packed Christmas schedule.

However, Wolves have progressed to the fourth round in each of the previous nine seasons. They are 15/8 to get the win and didn’t lose against the Blues in either of their two meetings last season.

Meanwhile, backing the game to finish in a draw at 23/10 is also worth consideration.

Goal markets

Only one of the previous seven meetings between these sides has seen more than two goals scored and, with Wolves only scoring more than once in one of their last six games, this promises to be a low-scoring affair.

Backing under 2.5 goals looks well worth a punt at 5/6.

Finally, Steven Fletcher has hit eight goals in the league for Wolves this season and two in his last three games.

He can be backed at 5/1 to find the net first in this clash.
