Ladbrokes World Championship: Lewis poised for second PDC title
Published:Defending World Champion Adrian Lewis produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in darts history in his semi final victory over James Wade last night – and it’s hard to see him being stopped now.
Lewis was 5-1 down against Wade and looked for all the world to be crashing out in an incident packed clash.
Lewis endured not only his now customary abuse from the Alexandra Palace crowd, but also had to leave the oche for 20 minutes – along with Wade – because of a breeze throwing their darts off line.
After Wade missed a dart for the match, Lewis went on to win 10 legs in a row to complete a remarkable comeback and give himself a huge confidence boost ahead of tonight’s final.
He said: “That was the best win of my career, definitely.
“Fair play to James, he could have won that 6-0. I love him to bits and told him this is the start of a rivalry. But that shows why I am world champion.
“There’s no reason why I will not retain my title. I am the best in the world.”
The odds seem to back up Lewis’s claim and he is currently the big favourite at 2/5 to see off Andy Hamilton.
Hamilton came though a similarly dramatic semi final against Simon Whitlock and he is currently 2/1 to win his first ever world title.
It’s hard to see Hamilton – who has never won a major – seeing off a rejuvenated Lewis but, with eight wins apiece in their 16 meetings so far, Hamilton shouldn’t be completely discounted.
Backing Hamilton to win with a 2.5 set advantage could prove to be a bet well worth taking on at 8/11.
The night looks set to belong to Lewis though and it will take a huge effort from Hamilton to stop the defending champion.
