Liverpool v Man Utd: Dalglish can inspire Reds to victory again

Published:

Liverpool host Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend and everything is set for this to be a thrilling encounter.

Both camps have urged fans and players to not get carried away with the occasion which represents the first meeting between the sides since Luis Suarez’s eight game ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

However, regardless of the off-field issues, there is plenty else to get excited about in the meeting between two of English football’s biggest rivals…

Match odds

Things are incredibly tight in the betting with Liverpool heading into the game at 8/5, while United are 7/4 to bag the win.

United have won two of their previous three FA Cup encounters with Liverpool, although the Reds won the only encounter of the three at Anfield – a 1-0 victory back in 2006.

The Reds have won three of their last four games at home against United as well and, with Wayne Rooney rumoured to be struggling with an ankle injury, backing the Carling Cup finalists to dump Ferguson’s men out of the cup looks well worth consideration.

Goal markets

There hasn’t been a goalless draw between these sides in their last 14 meetings but a stalemate can be backed in this clash at 9/1.

While a goalless draw looks unlikely, it still promises to be a tight and tense affair.

With United having the best away defence in the Premier League and Liverpool the third tightest home defence, back under2.5 goals at 5/6.

Finally, Steven Gerrard scored in both Carling Cup semi-final games against City and in his last appearance against United.

He is 7/1 to open the scoring in this clash.
