Liverpool vs Oldham: Reds to put dreadful week behind them

Published:

Kenny Dalglish has started to come under something approaching pressure in recent weeks – but there should be relief this Friday evening with a comfortable win over Oldham.

With the Luis Suarez race row continuing to rumble on and several of his big money signings failing to deliver on the pitch, this represents a brilliant chance for Dalglish to show things at Liverpool are still moving in the right direction.

Aside from the Carling Cup, the FA Cup represents Liverpool’s only realistic chance of silverware this season and the Reds shouldn’t let their boss down against Oldham…

Match odds

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool are big favourites at 1/8 and it’s hard to see beyond a win for the home side.

With Steven Gerrard returning to fitness and form for the Reds – who haven’t lost at home this season – they should have more than enough to progress against the League One side.

However, if you can’t resist a bet on the underdogs, then there is plenty of evidence to show Liverpool are far from unbeatable in the cup at Anfield.

They have lost against lower league sides Barnsley and Reading at home in recent seasons and the Latics are 16/1 to get the win and 15/2 to force the replay.

Goal markets

Liverpool have found goals hard to come by at Anfield this season and have only hit more than one goal in a game on three occasions.

With Luis Suarez suspended, backing under 2.5 goals looks well worth a punt at 9/4, while a bet on the Reds – who have not shipped more than one goal in a game at home all season – to win to nil is also worth consideration at 8/11.
