Paris St-Germain set to ride to the rescue of Manchester City outcast

Carlos Tevez has little more than a fortnight left to secure a move abroad or risk spending the rest of the season in limbo, and reports throughout the continent claim that Paris St-Germain are the latest club preparing a rescue package.

For weeks, it appeared almost certain that the Manchester City striker, who hasn’t featured since his refusal to warm-up when a substitute for the Premier League leaders at Bayern Munich in September, would join AC Milan, at least on loan.

However, the Rossoneri dramatically withdrew from the battle to sign him on Thursday, president Silvio Berlusconi stepping in to convince Alexandre Pato – who the Serie A champions hoped to sell to the French side to raise the funds – to stay.

Inter, who AC Milan are 11/10 favourites to triumph in the derby on Sunday night, have confirmed their plans to resume talks next week, but the Tevez camp only ever showed interest in their rivals, so they may be fighting a losing battle.

That has prompted speculation that Paris St-Germain are ready to enter the race. Their desire for a forward was shown by the pursuit of Pato, yet Leonardo had vowed not to target Tevez until his former team AC Milan were out of the picture.

Owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, there are no doubts as to their ability to meet the alleged £25 million asking price that troubled AC Milan, and they are thought to want a glamour buy to accompany the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as coach.

The former Chelsea boss enjoyed his first Ligue 1 match in the dugout on Saturday, overseeing a 3-1 win against Toulouse which saw the capital club maintain a three-point lead over Montpellier, who impressively defeated Lyon 1-0.

Paris St-Germain are firm 2/5 favourites to claim the title, odds that could shorten further if Tevez is captured.
