Italy could be next destination for Blackburn Rovers star
Now free to negotiate with foreign clubs over a possible move, Blackburn winger Junior Hoilett has a host of European giants battling it out for his signature on a Bosman transfer this summer.
Hoilett’s current Rovers deal expires in late June, and with interest from Liverpool, Tottenham and Bayern Munich mooted for a while, Inter Milan and Juventus have also joined the race to bring the Canadian to Italian shores.
Such is FIFA’s rulings, Hoilett would be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club at any time from now, though he could not negotiate with fellow English sides until his Ewood Park deal has expired.
The 21-year-old is said to be keen to carefully consider his options however, and so he could wait until the expiration of his contract before reaching an ultimate decision.
He is also eager to discover whether his current club can avoid relegation, as he has not ruled out the possibility of staying with the Lancashire outfit.
Following a dip in form as the January transfer window approached, Hoilett has begun to show glimpses of the blistering pace and trickery that has made him so highly-rated amongst Europe’s elite, scoring and claiming an assist in Blackburn’s 3-2 win over QPR in their last outing.
That upturn in performance has led Rovers manager Steve Kean to believe he has a chance of keeping his star asset, as proved when he told local newspaper Lancashire Evening Telegraph, “We would like to think that the way that he’s been playing, he’s been playing with a spring in his step and he’s back to the form he had before the transfer window opened so we’ve not given up on that.”
“There’s no reason why moving forward we can’t agree something that we can get pen put to paper on the appropriate time.”
Hoilett will be essential to Blackburn’s survival hopes, but the club may fall short of keeping him beyond the summer.
