Klitschko to enjoy an extremely early night against Chisora

Published:

Vitali Klitschko can be expected to come out on the front foot against Dereck Chisora and therefore 10/3 looks a great price in the boxing odds that he retains his WBC heavyweight title with a KO inside the opening four rounds.

With the fight looking so one-sided on paper, it is difficult for punters to extract value, but round betting may offer the best opportunity to make money.

Chisora’s main problem is that he lacks the tools in his armoury to really threaten Klitschko.

He is quite short for a heavyweight so will have to try to get into range to land shots, which may cause him to take some chances.

This also means that he will have to walk through some big punches to get inside Klitschko’s jab, not ideal against a fighter dubbed Dr Ironfist, who has won 40 of his 45 bouts by knockout.

Furthermore, if Chisora does get into range he lacks the hand speed to throw combinations.

Klitschko’s left hook could prove the decisive punch as the Brit attempts to land a with an overhand right and the bout may resemble the successful title defence the champion had against Chris Arreola, which was one-sided in the extreme.

There is nothing to truly worry Klitschko and he can stamp his authority from the opening round.

Klitschko previously stopped Odlanier Solis in the first round and Chisora has many attributes in common with the Cuban, although he could be deemed a slightly more limited version.

Therefore Klitscho to KO Chisora in the first round does offer some appeal at 16/1, while a stoppage success for the champion in the first half of the bout can be backed at 13/8.

Punters wanting to err on the side of caution can get 1/4 that Klitschko simply wins by KO and Chisora has only previously fought beyond nine rounds on two occasions.
