Man Utd told they can sign Samba star if the price is right

Manchester United’s lack of central midfield creativity has resulted in Paul Scholes being surprisingly brought out of retirement, but there is good news that a possible replacement seems set to be available to buy in the summer.

Paulo Henrique Ganso has been monitored by virtually all of the top clubs across Europe at some point in the last 12 months, but offers have been largely nonexistent to date.

However, Santos have dropped the biggest hint yet that they may be prepared to part with the attacking midfielder in the summer, assuming they are handed what they deem to be a fair price.

The one big problem is that this price is currently unknown, although bids would probably have to start at around £20m to get Santos remotely interested in selling.

But with Manchester United and Tottenham among the Premier League clubs interested, alongside AC Milan, Inter and Barcelona sure to want to get involved from elsewhere in Europe, it would be no surprise to see a bidding war transpire.

Therefore, it may take in excess of £30m to sign Ganso and this may be more of the level that will appeal to Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro de Oliveira.

Ribeiro has told Brazilian radio station Radio Globo: “Santos do not want unhappy players. If he wants to leave and a bid meets our valuation, he can leave.

“The player is eager to shine and that is something that is in both his interests and the clubs. If he plays well, certainly better offers will come in the middle of the year.”

Winning the Premier League would enhance the chances of Manchester United luring Ganso to Old Trafford and this can currently be backed at 6/4, with Manchester City remaining the favourites at 8/13.
