Real Madrid set for summer swoop for Manchester City striker

Real Madrid are almost certain to sign a striker in the summer and it seems that Sergio Aguero is the name at the top of their shortlist.

Aguero was a leading target of Jose Mourinho in the summer, but an offer could not be agreed as Atletico Madrid were determined not to allow their star asset signing for their eternal rivals.

At the time, Aguero was desperate to move to the Bernabeu and it is hard to believe that anything has changed, even if he is instrumental in guiding Manchester City to the Premier League title.

Therefore, Manchester City may find themselves in a tricky situation, especially if rumours are true that a clause was written into the Aguero contract preventing them selling the Argentine to Real Madrid for two seasons.

Real Madrid will need a striker, especially as they are likely to miss out on Santos forward Neymar to Barcelona and if the growing rumours that Gonzalo Higuain is joining Chelsea are true.

But Mourinho is putting most of his eggs in one basket by insisting that there is only two strikers he is interesting in bringing to Real Madrid – Aguero and Fernando Llorente.

This is an interesting combination with the duo both being completely different in their strengths, with Llorente being a more direct replacement for the outgoing Higuain, but Aguero perhaps being better suited to Real Madrid’s style of play.

If the speculation hots up in the coming months, Manchester City will hope that Aguero keeps his head on the job and adds to his current 13-goal Premier League haul to fire the club to the title.

Manchester City’s odds are 4/6 to win the Premier League, with Aguero 11/4 to end the campaign as the division’s top scorer.
