Return of defenders to help Ghana beat determined Guinea

Guinea produced arguably the performance of the African Nations Cup so far when thumping Botswana 6-1 in their latest Group D game, but a defeat against Ghana will see them exit the tournament ahead of the quarter finals.

Only a victory will suffice to see Guinea progress, meaning that they are sure to adopt an attacking mentality in the hope of beating Ghana.

But not only have Ghana won both of their Group D outings so far, they also have the luxury of pairing both first choice central defenders for the first time in the tournament as John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah return from suspension.

This should help Ghana remain tight at the back and 1/1 looks a good price in the African Nations Cup odds that they triumph, particularly if picking off the opposition on the counter attack.

Asamoah Gyan is one player capable of doing exactly this and if he scores at any time in the 90 minutes all losing first goalscorer bets will be refunded for the showdown.

Guinea are 12/5 to beat Ghana and a victory would throw the group wide open, especially if Mali win the other Group D clash with Botswana.

Victories for Guinea and Mali would put all three teams in six points and goal difference will be required to decide which pair progress to the quarter finals.

Therefore, Mali may also go on the onslaught having watched Guinea put Botswana to the sword.

It is 1/3 that Mali secure maximum points, although they will have to do so without the banned Samba Diakite, who was signed on loan by Queens Park Rangers for the remainder of the season on deadline day.

Botswana’s goal in the 6-1 defeat to Guinea was their first ever goal at the tournament and they will now have eyes on a first African Nations Cup victory, which can be backed at 7/1.
