The Championship Accumulator: More misery for Portsmouth

Published:

As FA Cup fixtures provide a daunting task for punters, we have turned our attentions to the Championship to select four teams that can bring a return at more than 31/1.

Barnsley are at the forefront of our picks, with the Yorkshire outfit priced at 6/5 to beat a Portsmouth outfit who have plunged into administration for the second time in three years.

The demoralised visitors will struggle to get anything from a ground where Barnsley have won almost half of their games this season, and the Tykes will avenge a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture here.

Leeds are our next selection, at 4/6 to overcome Doncaster in a Yorkshire derby at Elland Road.

Caretaker manager Neil Redfearn wants the job on a permanent basis, and as he is believed to have the backing of the players, they will strive to perform well in his last match in temporary charge, and can beat Doncaster for the fourth consecutive time.

An eyebrow-raising choice comes next, with Coventry 3/1 to collect all three points away to the Championship’s worst home side, Nottingham Forest.

Portsmouth’s ten point deduction for entering administration gives the Sky Blues the chance to escape the relegation zone for the first time in months with a positive result, and buoyed by their 2-1 triumph over Leeds in midweek, they can make it back-to-back wins to kick-start a survival bid.

Crystal Palace round off the accumulator, needing to justify their 6/5 price at home to London rivals Watford to continue a steady progression into the top half of the table under Dougie Freedman.

They are unbeaten in their last three matches, and should dispose of a Watford side that struggles for goals on the road, scoring just twelve times in fifteen matches.
