Everton v Sunderland: Toffee’s home form will see them into semis
Published:What better way to recover from a crushing derby defeat than with the visit of Sunderland, whose woeful record at Goodison Park makes Everton good value at 17/20 to book their place in the last four.
Sunderland have not beaten the Toffees in their last 15 meetings in all competitions, 11 of which they have lost.
Three of the last five however have ended all square, albeit at the Stadium of Light. It’s 12/5 for this one to require a replay.
But the Mackems haven’t enjoyed success at Goodison Park in any of their previous 11 visits. Their last away win in this fixture was back in November 1996.
In recent years, the last four encounters between the sides on Merseyside have all been won by the Toffees, who have scored 14 and conceded just once.
Meanwhile, David Moyes’ side have been imperious at home of late, winning five successive contests in league and cup.
Manchester City, Spurs and Chelsea are among the sides to have left Goodison empty handed, all of whom failed to score.
It’s now in excess of seven hours of football since Everton last conceded in front of their own fans. The home side are 9/4 to win to nil.
There is however at least a glimmer of hope for the visitors, in the shape of Everton’s tendency to bow out of the FA Cup at home.
Reading did the damage at Goodison Park last season, while Birmingham brought a premature end to the Toffees’ cup run in 2010. Martin O’Neill’s men are 16/5 to repeat the feat.
Elsewhere, each of Everton’s last six fixtures in all competitions have seen fewer than 2.5 goals, while five of the last six meetings between the clubs have contained less than three. Under 2.5 goals is worth 4/6 in this one.
As for Everton goals, the Toffees have scored twice in all three of their FA Cup victories this season, and they’re 6/4 to score 2-3 goals against Sunderland.
