George Groves the big favourite for Kenny Anderson rematch

George Groves and Kenny Anderson face off for the British title Groves took from James DeGale this weekend – and he’s the big favourite at 1/7 to retain his title.

The pair have fought once before back in 2010, with the undefeated Groves seeing off Anderson in six rounds.

However, that only tells half the story.

Groves was slow off the mark in that bout and got embroiled in a scrap which favoured Anderson, with the Scot putting the Londoner on the canvas for the first time in his professional career.

Groves eventually learnt his lessons though and finally started to box a bit smarter and move around the ring a lot better, avoiding Anderson’s sharp body shots.

He is 9/1 to win it again in the sixth round again but this promises to be an even trickier fight for the reigning British super middleweight and Commonwealth champion.

Anderson will take a lot of confidence from his performance in their last bout and he should come at the favourite harder and faster.

Anderson wasn’t fully fit for the first encounter after suffering sore ribs from sparring with Carl Froch prior to the clash and, after his rapid start, he was found wanting in the fifth round, with the superior class and fitness of Groves showing through.

He will be a lot better prepared for this bout but, with Groves growing as a fighter and showing a great deal more maturity than he did in that lucky escape two years ago, he should come through to retain his titles.

It promises to be a lot closer than the odds suggest though, so backing Anderson at 9/1 may not be the worst punt.
