Hamilton could complete superb British F1 fortnight in Malaysia

| 21.03.2012

The same drivers who headed the final standings in last weekend’s Australian Grand Prix will logically take the top five positions in the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix, and Lewis Hamilton looks a good prospect at 5/2 to triumph in Kuala Lumpur.

An intriguing battle is already beginning to take shape between favourites for the Constructor’s Championship, Red Bull, and McLaren, and this looks set to continue with Sebastian Vettel made favourite at 9/4 to win in Malaysia.

Hamilton comes next and much will depend on the tyre strategy of each driver, but the Brit could be a good bet at 5/2 to overcome last year’s world champion.

To do so however, he will need to improve on his decision making regarding his tyres, which contributed to his eventual third place finish in Australia, where he was trumped by McLaren teammate Jenson Button.

Hamilton was unlucky however, regarding the timing of the safety car’s release, and he will have a tremendous chance of besting his teammate should he show the desire he did early in the reckoning in Melbourne.

Button is next in the betting, priced at 11/4 to follow up his Melbourne success with another victory here, and if he can produce as confident a display as he did in the maiden GP of the year, he will have a chance of justifying those odds.

Mark Webber will provide further competition to McLaren for Red Bull, and he is 9/1 to claim victory on the Sepang International Circuit, with it looking increasingly likely that those two constructors will battle it out for the title.

Fernando Alonso looks the only other real main danger, out-qualifying the legendary Michael Schumacher for Ferrari to be installed as a 16/1 shot for the race, though it seems as though their car could struggle to deal with the temperamental Malaysian weather as well as Red Bull, McLaren and even Mercedes can.
