Liverpool star at the forefront of PSG’s summer wishlist

Controversial Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has emerged as a leading target for mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain, whose owner has promised to fund an £85million splurge in the close season.

There is no doubting Suarez’s immense importance to Liverpool as a player, but the mass controversy he attracted to the club in the midst of his suspension for racial abuse, has led to claims that the Merseyside club could be willing to let him go in the summer.

Having cost in excess of £20million when completing his switch from Ajax to Anfield last January, the Uruguayan forward would certainly command a hefty fee were he to move, but that will be no stumbling block for oil-rich PSG.

The French club’s Qatari president Nasser Al Khelaifi has already funded an astronomical £40million move for largely unproven Argentinian playmaker Javier Pastore, whilst he has promised investment in the region of £85million each season until his club are one of Europe’s elite.

He stated, “It is true we want Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. Our real short-term targets are to win the Champions League and find a new Lionel Messi.”

PSG currently lead Ligue 1 under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti, and with them looking good to claim a first French title since 1994, they will be eager to bring in players with the European pedigree the likes of Suarez possess, ahead of a Champions League campaign.

Liverpool themselves are reportedly looking to significantly strengthen in the summer, particularly in attacking areas, and they may decide to allow Suarez to leave in order to raise cash to bring in some of their own targets.

Indeed, mooted targets Eden Hazard, Javi Garcia and Olivier Giroud would not come cheap, and after spending in excess of £90million during his first year back in charge, Kenny Dalglish may be forced to sell before he buys this time round.
