Man City preparing swoop for Atletico Madrid strike sensation

Radamel Falcao has gone from strength to strength after a blistering campaign with Porto last season, and now Manchester City are reportedly willing to part with £42million to bring him to Eastlands.

Falcao set a new record in last season’s Europa League, smashing 17 goals en route to winning the competition with Porto, and after that form earned him a £34million switch to Atletico Madrid, he has racked up an impressive 25 goals in 36 games in Spain.

Atletico’s domestic league standing isn’t what would be expected of them though, with Champions League qualification looking unlikely, and even missing out on a Europa League spot looking a distinct possibility.

The Colombian striker is desperate to showcase his talents on the European stage, and Man City would provide a platform for him to do this, with Roberto Mancini identifying him as the perfect man to replace Edin Dzeko, who has grown frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities.

Dzeko is expected to exit the club in the summer, with Real Madrid and Juventus showing the most serious interest, and as City will want to recoup something in the region of the £30million they shelled out to Wolfsburg, this would make up the bulk of Falcao’s transfer fee.

After receiving criticism when initially making his switch to Atletico from those who believed he belonged at a bigger club, 26-year-old Falcao is now eager to test his ability in England, and a title challenge at the Etihad Stadium would be appealing to the Colombian international.

Sergio Aguero was the last player to make the move from Atletico Madrid to City, and after proving an instant success with 25 goals in all competitions, Mancini will hope Falcao can prove a similar success story, should he firm up his interest in the striker this summer.
