Tottenham v Bolton: Spurs set to cruise into semi-finals

| 17.03.2012

Relegation-threatened Bolton have more immediate concerns than a potential trip to Wembley and on that basis alone, Spurs are a safe bet at 2/7 to book their place in the last four.

That’s not to say things are all rosy at White Hart Lane. Three league defeats coupled with Arsenal’s charge has put the pressure squarely on Harry Redknapp’s side and they too are in danger of seeing their season implode.

But even if they are to surrender third place, the FA Cup remains a very realistic opportunity of silverware and Spurs will not be taking Bolton lightly.

Spurs are unbeaten in eight against Bolton in all competitions at White Hart Lane and have won each of the last five. What’s more, Bolton have only scored once in those five meetings.

Though Tottenham have wobbled in recent weeks, their home form hasn’t suffered a great deal.

Spurs have won three of their last four at the Lane, while the two Manchester clubs remain the only teams to have won at Spurs in domestic football this season.

Bolton meanwhile will be buoyed by last weekend’s crucial 2-1 win over fellow strugglers QPR that saw them climb out of the bottom three.

And they should have fond memories from last year’s competition, which saw them reach the semi-finals, before losing 5-0 to Stoke at Wembley.

Their away form however remains dismal, with ten defeats in 14 league fixtures. In recent weeks, Owen Coyle’s men have lost at Norwich, Chelsea and Manchester City, conceding seven without reply. So a price of 10/1 for an away win is not without justification.

As for total goals, each of the last four clashes at White Hart Lane have seen at least four goals scored. Over 3.5 goals is available at 5/4.

And cup specialist Jermain Defoe is sure to be among the goals yet again. The diminutive striker has already scored three in this year’s competition and is 4/5 to score at any time during the 90 minutes.
