Middlesbrough v Southampton: Saints to seal promotion

Published:

Southampton will make the long journey up north to Middlesbrough in the knowledge that a win will see them promoted, and they are 5/4 to secure Premier League football at the Riverside.

The Saints disposed of Boro 3-0 earlier in the season and they have won six of their last seven on the road.

The hosts have hit something of a bump in the road of late producing only one win in their previous ten fixtures and they have failed to beat any of the top three this term.

However, if results go their way there is a chance Tony Mowbray’s men may need a win to keep their play-off hopes alive and they are priced at 2/1 to beat Nigel Adkins’ side.

Former Doncaster striker Billy Sharp has notched two braces in the last four games and the 26-year old is 4/1 to score first here.

Marvin Emnes is always a danger and the Dutchman, who is enjoying his most prolific campaign so far, after netting 17 goals in all competitions, is at 5/1 to break the stalemate.

The Teessiders have failed to score in nine of their home fixtures this term, whilst the Hampshire based club have netted three in nothing short of nine outings.

The South Coast club have also scored three against Mowbray’s side on the last two occasions so a 3-0 away victory at 22/1 could be worth backing for this Championship clash.

Boro have drawn 16 games this year and have been level at half-time in just under half of their games so taking a punt on this one to be all-square at both full-time and after 90 minutes could see some interest at 7/2.
