Synchronised and Seabass to batter bookies in Grand National

Ladbrokes could be left with a multi-million pound headache at the end of this Grand National weekend as Tony McCoy looks to bag his second winner in the last three years when he mounts 6/1 favourite, and Gold Cup winner Synchronised.

Any horse that carries the champion jockey always receives a lot of attention around National weekend, but Synchronised is expected to attract many a floating punter, as well as hardened betting aficionados thanks to his impressive showing when winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The Grand National attracts over £300 million in bets on the biggest day of the bookmaking year, and with bookies expecting a large portion of that to follow McCoy they could be set for a day even more costly than back in 2010, when AP finally triumphed in Aintree’s big race at the 15th time of asking.

Katie Walsh, sister of Ruby, will be looking to become the first woman to win the National when she attacks the first fence on the 14/1 Seabass.

This will be Walsh’s maiden ride in the country’s most prestigious race, as she becomes the 15th woman to tackle the Aintree contest.

Walsh is expected to unite the female population and generate a lot of support on Saturday morning, as she adopts the tag of the “housewives’ choice”.

Her Irish trained nine-year old is expected to gain a lot of followers, and with over half the adults in Britain having a flutter, it could well be that Walsh and Seabass are first over the line to complete a fairytale win.

Another female also rides in the 165th renewal of the race. Nina Carberry is aboard Organisedconfusion, and despite not receiving as much attention as Walsh, she has a real chance of triumphing at 20/1 in what will be her fourth outing in the world’s most famous steeplechase.
