Van Persie the favourite to claim maiden PFA crown

Red-hot Dutchman Robin Van Persie has been in inspired form this season hitting an impressive 34 goals in all competitions and he is the 1/8 favourite to claim this year’s PFA award.

Man City have three nominees in the shape of England number one Joe Hart, playmaker David Silva and star striker Sergio Aguero.

Hart has been arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this term and his consistently superb performances have kept the Citizens in the title hunt.

The 24-year old, who is a 33/1 outside shot to claim the accolade, has kept 14 clean sheets and only been beaten on 27 occasions in 34 appearances in the league.

Silva had a wonderful first half of the campaign as he tore open countless defences and is at a tempting 7/1 to take the award.

The former Valencia man’s form has tailed away a little of late but he has provided 13 assists in the league this time out, the most in the division.

The third of the trio is Aguero. The Argentinian striker has netted 28 times in his first season in England, not to mention chipping in with ten assists.

Aguero’s exploits mean he looks good value at 14/1 to be the chief contender to challenge Van Persie.

The two English competitors are Manchester United’s mercurial forward Wayne Rooney and last year’s Football Writer’s Player of the Year, Scott Parker.

The Spurs man, who is priced at 33/1, will be looking to emulate teammate Gareth Bale in winning this award, in a season that has seen him become the heartbeat of the Tottenham side and given the England captaincy by interim boss Stuart Pearce.

Rooney has had yet another sparkling season as the focal point of the Red Devils attack and is at 8/1 to claim a prize he won two years ago.

The number ten has converted 31 times and if he can find four more strikes before the end of the campaign, this would be his most fruitful yet.
