Blackburn v Wigan: relegation beckons for Kean and Rovers

| 07.05.2012

The Ewood Park faithful will be gearing themselves up for a crucial Lancashire derby when Blackburn take on Wigan priced at 6/4 to record a win that is imperative to their slender survival hopes.

Steve Kean’s side are 1/50 to be playing in the Championship next season and they could well be relegated in front of their own fans here.

Rovers have only one win in seven, but that came in their last fixture on their own patch as they enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Norwich, and they will be desperate to make it two home wins in a row.

The hosts have never lost at home to the Latics in the Premier League with five wins and a draw so far.

The visitors are on a wonderful run that has seen them defy the odds and beat Newcastle, Arsenal and Man United in their last four fixtures, and they are 9/5 to secure the three points that should ensure they play Premier League football next season.

The draw is available at 11/5, but with Blackburn only drawing one home game all season and their opponents taking a point in just three away clashes it would appear unlikely that the two will share the spoils in this one.

Yakubu has a fine record against Roberto Martinez’s men, hitting five in six appearances, and the Nigerian is 5/1 to break the deadlock this time.

Victor Moses found the target twice in the 4-0 victory over Newcastle and has come into form since terrorising the Arsenal back four at the Emirates and he looks good value to net first at 8/1.

The sensible money looks to be on something of a goal fest in this encounter.

The last two matches between the clubs have generated thirteen goals while in the thirteen meetings at this level this fixture has produced a huge 49 goals, so punting on their being more than 4.5 goals at 9/2 should be taken into consideration.
