Caspar Netscher and Parish Hall look the Guineas threats to Camelot
Published:Punters wanting to oppose Camelot in the 2000 Guineas may want to most consider Parish Hall and Caspar Netscher as each-way alternatives at 12/1 and 25/1 respectively for Newmarket.
The main negative revolving around the 1/1 favourite is that his preparation is largely identical to that of St Nicholas Abbey two years ago, who ran well below par at Newmarket.
However, favourites also have a disappointing record in the 2000 Guineas in recent years, with just two of the last ten market leaders landing the spoils, including Frankel 12 months ago.
Furthermore, Camelot won the Racing Post Trophy last season, but all of the previous three winners of the same two-year old contest have failed to win the 2000 Guineas.
In terms of which horse brings the best previous form into the 2000 Guineas, then it is hard to look beyond Parish Hall.
Parish Hall landed the Dewhurst Stakes last season, which is arguably the best preparation for Newmarket and he seems well overpriced based on the form.
The one negative is that ideally he would prefer firm ground, with the surface expected to be a bit softer for the opening Group One contest of the season, while the Derby distance of 1m4f may prove more to his liking than the straight 1m of the 2000 Guineas.
Soft ground presents no such issues for Caspar Netscher following his success at Newbury last month, while the fact he has already run this season must be considered a positive over most of his Newmarket opposition.
His big drawback is that the distance will severely test his stamina, with Caspar Netscher typically being run over the shorter 6f.
The fact he can be a big headstrong in the early stages will not aid his chances, but if he settles, he could be finishing quickest in the closing stages.
