Manchester City star admits he would welcome Barcelona return

After swinging the Premier League title race firmly in Manchester City’s favour, Yaya Toure has now sensationally declared that he would welcome a return to Barcelona, should they come calling.

Toure hit a late brace away to Newcastle on Sunday to secure a 2-0 win, and ensure that a maiden Premier League title is in City’s hands ahead of QPR’s visit to Eastlands this weekend.

Now though, the powerful Ivorian has handed a less welcome contribution to City’s title cause, by outlining a desire to one day return to the Nou Camp as a Barcelona player.

“I said two years ago that I would return. It has been the most important team for me. And if they call, you don’t think twice. I love Barca,” he told a Spanish radio station.

“In the press conference I did when I left I said I would return. In life, you never know what will happen tomorrow. It has been the team of my life and I would like to finish my sporting career here. If I could return, it would be great.”

Toure’s comments come despite him having three years left to run on his £220,000 per week City contract, though it would appear that he could move sooner rather than later, with his 29th birthday fast approaching.

He has demonstrated since initially leaving Barca, a penchant to perform in a more attacking role, though his defensive capabilities remain equally as adequate as when he was employed as the Catalans’ anchorman.

This added versatility could persuade new Barca boss Tito Vilanova to make a move for the Ivorian, as he looks to build a squad capable of regaining the La Liga title next year.

A proclamation from one of the world’s finest midfielders that he would like to join the club, would seem to be an indication that Toure would welcome the move too.
