Real Madrid v Atletico: Bernabeu may favour underdogs in final

Published:

Let’s be honest, Atletico Madrid struggle to beat their main rivals on any ground, so the fact that they face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Copa del Rey final does not rate as a major disadvantage.

In fact, based on the historical showdowns between the duo in this final, being the away side may actually work in their favour.

Although the most recent was over two decades ago in 1992, Atletico have won three of the four previous finals between the rivals and all at the Bernabeu.

It is 5/2 that Atletico lift the cup again and 5/1 that they do so with victory inside the 90 minutes.

And despite being winless in 25 meetings with Real and losing all of the last 10, they have a strong chance of finally ending their unwanted streak.

Alongside the choice of ground, Real do seem to be in some inner turmoil, with togetherness looking absent and famous Copa del Rey cup-dropper Sergio Ramos being left to conduct the pre-match chat.

In terms of identifying a result, it is worth noting that Real Madrid have scored at least twice in their last nine Bernabeu fixtures and three times or more in six of their last seven.

Therefore, 9/20 is not the worst price that Real Madrid score over 1.5 goals and some punters may be tempted by the 11/8 that they net at least three.

But, Real Madrid have been conceding at home of late, with Real Valladolid and Malaga converting three and two respectively already in May.

With Falcao and competition top scorer Diego Costa in their ranks, Atletico have the ammunition to trouble the scorers and the 28/1 on offer for a 3-2 success for Diego Simeone’s men may prove to be a tad on the generous side.
