Tominator can dominate Overturn and co in the Chester Cup

| 08.05.2012

Overturn will be a popular winner of the Chester Cup for the second year in succession at 4/1, but the favourite may be worth opposing with Tominator, who seems to have many more things in his favour.

This year’s Champion Hurdle runner up will have to show no ill effects from his jumps season to land the spoils again, while he has substantial age and weight trends to overcome.

No eight-year-old has triumphed in the Chester Cup since 1985, while there has been no winner in the past decade carrying in excess of 9st7lb.

Tominator is 8/1 to win the Chester Cup and looks to be of the right mould to triumph.

Nine of the last ten winners were officially rated between 90 and 103 and the same number were a previous winner over a distance of 2m or further.

Tominator was successful on his only previous start over 2m and the further step up in distance should play to his strengths, especially if Overturn sets a frantic early pace as expected.

Meanwhile, winning a valuable handicap would be nothing new to Tominator, as he landed the Northumberland Plate last season.

One of the big preferences is to be drawn near the inside rail and so Tominator can have no complaints beginning from stall two, as Overturn will have to get across from stall eight.

Gulf Of Naples enters with strong claims, but stall 19 is a big negative, Ile De Re is another let down by the draw.

Of the outsiders, Kazbow looks to be worth an each-way interest at 25/1.

Putting a line through his last start when well beaten in the Cesarewitch after being struck into, Kazbow looks to re-oppose Never Can Tell, who is far shorter in the betting at 6/1, on better terms.

Kazbow has dropped down the weights and 8st11lb represents his lowest ever racing weight.
