Tottenham pair in race against time to make Euro 2012 squad

Roy Hodgson is set to name his provisional England squad on Wednesday, but has selection concerns as Scott Parker, 1/8 to make the cut, and 2/7 chance Kyle Walker are now injury doubts.

The pair earned PFA recognition for their respective Premier League campaigns this term, and would look certain to be picked based on their seasonal form.

Parker captained England during their last match, and would appear a sure fire starter in Poland and Ukraine should he make the plane.

A recurring Achilles problem has threatened his chances of inlcusion however, with the all-action midfielder set to undergo a course of injections in an attempt to dispel the injury.

Ex-West Ham star Parker has missed Spurs’ last four matches, but is hopeful that a week’s rest following his medical treatment could see his injury clear up.

Meanwhile Walker, who was named the PFA Young Player of the Year, is a sudden doubt after sustaining an ankle injury in Tottenham’s final day victory over Fulham.

Marauding full-back Walker was spotted wearing a protective boot following his withdrawal at White Hart Lane, though his club manager Harry Redknapp later played down the injury.

“He got a kick in the ankle. Kyle will be alright for the Euros,” he told reporters.

Redknapp was less confident on Parker however, and refused to rule out the possibility that the central midfielder could miss the championships this summer.

“If the injection doesnt clear it up he wouldn’t be fit for England. He would have to have an op and then it would be long term,” he said in the aftermath of Spurs’ fourth place-clinching win.

The chosen England squad is to begin training in Spain on May 21, though it is feared that this could come too soon for Parker.

Should he fail to make this training camp, Parker looks unlikely to feature in England’s Wembley friendlies against Norway and Belgium, which in turn would make it difficult to see him make the Euros squad.
