4:25 Royal Ascot: Trade Storm fits the trends in big field

With at least a dozen horses with a more than solid chance of winning the Royal Hunt Cup, analysing the draw could be the best way of picking a winner and Trade Storm has a lot going for him at 20/1 to produce a big performance.

There is a lot to like about Captain Bertie, who is 10/1 and has really benefitted from being gelded over the winter.

After finishing fourth in the Spring Mile at Doncaster after encountering every problem imaginable in running, he battled well to take the Spring Cup at Newbury last time.

He is up 8lb in the weights for this success, but should improve for the drying ground.

The one problem is that a draw of 24 or higher looks set to offer a major advantage in the Royal Hunt Cup and he will have to break from stall 17.

Dimension looks on course to be sent off favourite and is another who will have to cope with a climb in the weights as he prepares to run off a career-high mark.

There are also doubts as to whether 1m is truly his best trip and he may be better over slightly shorter, while stall seven looks a tough place to win from.

Arabian Star is another let down by a low draw, alongside Boom And Bust and Rock Critic.

Trade Storm has no such concerns from stall 25 and despite running well on his two starts since switching to the yard of David Simcock, he has been dropped 2lb by the handicapper.

He was especially solid last time in the Hambleton Stakes at York when fading close home and if held onto a little longer, can take a hand in the finish.

The booking of William Buick catches the eye, while 11 of the last 14 winners have carried no more than 9st and 13 of the last 14 were aged either four of five.
